The debate on 'Global Warming' has been a controversial one. With so many differing viewpoints, scientific data, and "facts" how do we filter through what is: Truth vs. what is "Truthiness"
"Truthiness as defined by faux journalist Steven Colbert, is what you want the facts to be as opposed to what the facts are. What feels like the right answer as opposed to what reality will support".The information represented by new stations, reporters, scientists, meteorologists, politicians, etc.. is contrasting.
Here is one example published by Fox News on Fox.com
| 'Anyone who says there's not a dramatic change in weather patterns, I think is denying reality' -Andrew M. Cuomo | |||||
This Fox News article, (published Oct.31, 2012)
expresses the views of New York City Governor, Andrew M.Cuomo and Mayor, Mike Bloomberg, saying:
Hurricane Sandy was in direct relation to Global Warming.
Fox then follows up with how 'Scientists argue that climate change has little to no effect on hurricanes.' Two months later, in December 2012 a blog post on MediaMatters.org revisits the subject with an article titled:
"10 dumbest things Fox News said about climate change"
http://mediamatters.org/blog/2012/12/31/10-dumbest-things-fox-said-about-climate-change/191859 Here is another look at what Fox new's 'expert meteorologist' Joe Bastardi says in an interview on O'Reily factor about the Hurricane Sandy relation to Global Warming.. http://foxnewsinsider.com/2012/11/01/meteorologist-joe-bastardi-blasts-al-gores-claims-that-global-warming-caused-hurricane-sandy/ One thing I've noticed, in this dispute particularly, whether it is intentional or not; is how the differing viewpoints take on an obvious political stance. What is being proven scientifically is ultimately dismissed in large part to right wing/ left wing bias. No matter how much evidence supports Al Gore's beliefs concerning global warming, the evidence is unlikely to be heard over his political stance. (This looks to me like an example of 'framing' the media.) ![]()
Global warming political cartoons portray this.
The most recent article in February 2013 Fox News reports: "Working less may decrease Global Warming"
http://nation.foxnews.com/global-warming/2013/02/05/study-global-warming-can-be-slowed-working-less
Both Fox News and US.News.com agree that adopting a more 'European' work schedule; consisting of fewer weekly hours and more vacation time, would reduce the effects of global warming with fewer carbon emissions. Looks to me like someone was trying to plant a seed in the boss's ear so to speak.. I kinda like it though ;)
Less work? More vacation time? Yeah, I'd get on board with that!
There seems to be a common theme in these news articles, and that is, there is an extreme lack in concrete scientific information. I haven't seen any actual numbers or data supporting these 'fair & trusted' views. The difference I have found with the news reports as opposed to the faux news reports, is the predominate bias in news reporting. In which the views of the station supersede the facts. With that said, here are some 'faux news' reportings'.. John Stewart from Comedy Central's The Daily Show entertains, "Global Warming is a total hoax, and I'll tell ya how I know; because it's cold.. today... where I live" http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-january-23-2013/the-global-warming-hoax Stewart ridicules the statements denoting 'Global warming doesn't exist because it's cold outside'.. Similarly, Steven Colbert mocks CNN contributor, Eric Erickson in a January episode of Colbert Report saying; "It's the thoughtlessness that counts" in response to Erickson's "Just deal with it" attitude. In connection to global warming Erickson admits: "There's not much we can do about it." http://www.colbertnation.com/video/the+new+abnormal Well said Steven, I wouldn't want to "spoil my grandchildren with a habitable planet" either.. :) The Colbert Report discusses the ideal of climate change during a January 29, 2013 episode, calling it an: "Invasion of our homeland by heat"
He explains how the government has turned global warming into a National Security issue, using the term "National Threat".
